The Montgomery County Civic Band will take concert-goers “way back” during Sunday’s scheduled concert.
The hour-long event begins at 3 p.m. in the gazebo on the grounds of Lane Place and will pay tribute to Montgomery County’s year-long Bicentennial Celebration.
“This concert is loaded with a lot of old songs,” said Gary Ketchum, who directs the band. “A lot of the old folks will really like these.”
As always the band will open the concert with the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Then the band will play the first of three segments — Seems Like Old Times I, II and III.
Songs include in the first segment include: “Alexander’s Ragtime Band,” “Peg O’ My Heart,” “I Want a Girl Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad,” “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” and “12th Street Rag.”
The audience will hear the “Liberty Bell March” before the band moves into the second Seems Like Old Times segment with the following medley of songs, “Swanee,” “For Me and My Gal,” “Put Your Arms Around Me Honey,” “Pretty Baby” and “Tiger Rag.”
Ketchum said the band will take an old style approach to the modern tune “Sugar Creek Rag” created by former band director and member Melinda Zenor.
Concert-goers will then hear a medley of tunes entitled Stephen Foster Revisited. The arrangement will feature “Swanee River,” “My Old Kentucky Home,” “Oh, Susanna,” “Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair” and “Camptown Races.”
Songs in the final Seems Like Old Times segment will include: “Ma! He’s Making Eyes at Me,” “My Melancholy Baby,” “Ain’t We Got Fun,” “Moonlight Bay” and “After You’ve Gone.”
The band will play 1812 before ending the concert the same way as they all do with children having the opportunity to direct the band during “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free-will donations will be accepted.
The final concert of the summer is slated for July 31 and will be the children’s concert.
