The Beef House Dinner Theatre announces its annual fall comedy, The Hallelujah Girls.
For the past few Octobers, the Beef House has produced comedies, which feature strong female characters, such as Steel Magnolias, The Sweet Delilah Swim Club, The Wild Women of Winedale and The Savannah Sipping Society. The Hallelujah Girls is no exception.
Often billed as “girls’ night out” these comedies are also enjoyed by the fathers, sons and husbands of exceptional women. The Hallelujah Girls is written by the team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, who individually have found great success on television, including a Writers Guild of America Award for the famed sitcom, The Golden Girls.
Hilarity abounds when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives. The action in this rollicking Southern comedy takes place in SPA-DEE-DAH!, the abandoned church-turned-day-spa where this group of friends gathers every Friday afternoon. After the loss of a dear friend, the women realize time is precious, and if they’re going to change their lives and achieve their dreams, they have to get on it now.
But Sugar Lee (Beckey Burgoyne), their high-spirited, determined leader, has her hands full keeping the women motivated. Carlene’s (Jodi Prosser Muller) given up on romance, having buried three husbands. Nita’s (Jamey Coutant) a nervous wreck from running interference between her problematic son and his probation officer. Mavis’ (Nancy Henderson) marriage is so stagnant she’s wondering how she can fake her own death to get out of it. And sweet, simple Crystal (Amanda France) entertains them all, singing Christmas carols with her own hilarious lyrics.
The comic tension mounts when an ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly, a marriage proposal comes from an unlikely suitor and Sugar Lee’s archrival, Bunny (Jennifer Woodrow), vows she’ll stop at nothing to steal the spa away from her. By the time the women rally together to overcome these obstacles and launch their new, improved lives, you’ve got a side-splitting, joyful comedy that will make you laugh out loud and shout “Hallelujah!” The cast also features Rick Burgoyne and Jason Asaad.
The Hallelujah Girls opens Oct. 20 with evening shows on Oct. 20 and 27. Matinee performances play on Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Doors open for dinner at 6 p.m. for evening shows with an 8 p.m. show. For matinees, doors open at 12:30 p.m. for lunch and the show begins at 2 p.m. All times are eastern.
Opening weekend, Oct. 20-22, falls during the annual Parke County Covered Bridge Festival and patrons are encouraged to schedule a dinner theatre performance into their weekend plans. All seats are $63 and include show, buffet dinner, salad, famous Beef House rolls, soft drink and dessert.
