Friends and family of a Crawfordsville man who is battling cancer for a second time are planning a fundraiser later this month.
The Rev. Rodger Hoffman was diagnosed in 2002 with pancreatic cancer and was in remission until June of this year when he was told the cancer had returned. This time it was found in a lung, throat and brain.
He underwent surgery in mid-August and is receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
The upcoming benefit is set for 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 17 at the Crawfordsville Park & Rec Center, 922 E. South Blvd. Organizers will serve pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and drinks. Cost is $10. There also will be a bake sale and door prizes.
The goal is to raise $2,500 to help Hoffman and wife Kathy with fuel costs as they travel to Lebanon for his treatments. Kathy Hoffman also would like to use some of the proceeds to grant her husband two wishes — a trip to Fair Oaks and a trip to Ohio to visit family members.
Kathy Hoffman said her husband has been given only 4-6 months to live, but he has maintained a positive attitude.
“He has a strong faith,” she said. “He truly believes he will beat this cancer.”
Anyone who would like to donate baked goods or door prizes, should contact Hoffman family friend, Lisa Ryan, at 765-366-5187 or Kathy Hoffman at 765-307-1317. Donations of baked goods are due by Sept. 15.
An account has been established at Hoosier Heartland State Bank for those wishing to donate directly to the Hoffmans.
Notes of encouragement for Rodger Hoffman may be mailed to 2001 Dogwood Court, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
