The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety approved several items Wednesday, including a collaboration aimed at promoting safe walking routes for local students.

The board approved a request from Monica Nagele of the Montgomery County Wellness Coalition to designate Safe Routes to School for Hoover Elementary School and Crawfordsville Middle School.

The project, completed in partnership with the Crawfordsville Community School Corporation, will place yard signs along designated routes and is funded through a Purdue Extension grant intended to encourage physical activity among children.

Board members also approved a $211,254 bid from Biddle Construction for a barn replacement project at the city’s Yard Waste Site.

In other business, the board approved the annual traffic flow map for the July 4 Independence Day celebration at Milligan Park, allowing temporary street closures to help safely direct traffic following the fireworks display.

The board also approved performance bonds for Phase 2 of the Hawkview Subdivision public infrastructure improvement project. The bonds, requested by Director of Planning and Building Services Megan Huckstep, are equal to 110% of the project’s completion cost.

Additionally, the board approved mowing work orders requested by Code Enforcement Officer Barry Lewis for properties at 1720 Elmore St., owned by HM Asset Protection Trust and Kathryn Faubion, and 506 Shady Lane, owned by Sarah Springer and Mason Gardner.
