Board of works approves Lincoln Park change

Posted

The pickleball courts being constructed at Lincoln Park will now have chain link fencing around each court. The Crawfordsville Board of Works approved the change of the original plans on Wednesday.

The enhancement was an idea that has been promoted by pickleball players to make the pickleball experience more enjoyable. The fencing will prevent balls from traveling across adjoining courts.

The cost of the change order will be $15,000. Because the Lincoln Park renovation and Francis Wooden Park projects are being completed simultaneously, the cost of the fencing will be absorbed into the total costs of the project. The Francis Wooden Park is being built under budget so the funds for the fencing are available without the city having to ask for an additional appropriation.

The board approved a contract to maintain the new downtown fountain with the contractor who is building the popular downtown fountain. The new feature is considered to be high tech when compared to the previous fountain. The fountain, located at the corner of East Main Street and North Green Street is being constructed by the Indianapolis firm Smock Fansler, Corp. The corporation will be able to monitor water quality and observe potential problems from within the office in Indianapolis. The company will also service the fountain to keep it in good running order.

The contract is for two years. The cost is $9,150 for the first year and $9,421 the second year.

HWC Engineers was contracted to develop a new study for A.D.A. (Americans Disability Act) compliance. The $34,000 contract will identify A.D.A. improvements needed within the city. The study is mandatory if a city wishes to apply for Federal and State grants. The last study was completed 10 years ago and has served as a guide to help city officials comply with A.D.A. standards.

From noon - 6 p.m. the south lane along the 100 block of East Main Street will be blocked off. Three buildings along the block will be receiving new roofs.
