Members of the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday to approve an agreement with Banning Engineering for design services related to the William Shelley Drain reconstruction project.
The board approved an agreement with the Plainfield firm for an hourly rate not to exceed $28,300. The firm is the same firm county officials were using before the county drainage board vacated the legal drain and relinquished authority of it to the city earlier this year.
“We are picking up where they left off,” Mayor Todd Barton said.
The drain serves to remove subsurface water from much of the city’s east side. It was originally designed to serve a rural area, however, in recent decades most of the land served by the drain has been developed and the drain is no longer adequate and requires reconstruction.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a request from Darin Hutson, ServiceMaster of Crawfordsville, to place a dumpster at 309 E. Wabash Ave. for two days beginning Dec. 7.
• Approved the 2024 trash service budget in the amount of $360,368.
• Approved the 2024 central garage budget in the amount of $360,854.
• Approved the 2024 storm water budget in the amount of $747,718.
• Approved the 2024 wastewater budget in the amount of $4,400,528.
• Tabled bids for the pedestrian crossing projects on Elmore Street and Wabash Avenue and tabled bids for the paving project at Milligan Park.
