Board OKs pool study

Posted

Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety members approved the first step in possible improvements to the city pool.

On Wednesday, board members entered into a contract with HWC Engineering of Indianapolis to begin a feasibility study of the Milligan Park Pool. The cost of the study is not to exceed $36,500.

Mayor Todd Barton stressed the agreement is not to build a new pool, only to have engineers prepare a potential improvement plan.

Previously, members of the Crawfordsville Common Council agreed to pay for the feasibility study from the city’s American Rescue Plan Act funding.

The board also approved an amendment to an agreement with HWC Engineering for the Frances Wooden Park project. Additional consulting work is required to complete the overhaul of the park on the city’s northwest side. The board agreed to continue using the firm’s consulting services at an hourly rate that is not to exceed $3,500.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Mark Cox, street commissioner, to close Vine Street at Wabash Avenue on Friday for paving repair work.

• Approved a request from Crawfordsville Police Chief Aaron Mattingly to purchase a 2021 Dodge Durango for $34,000 from a LaPorte car dealership. The purchase will replace a vehicle that was totaled in a crash.

• Approved two landowner agreements for the Purple Heart Parkway project. The agreements stipulate that property owners, Garry and Mary McCutchan, and Wayne McCutchan, will be given access to water and sewage utilities when the road is extended in exchange for voluntarily allowing the city to annex their properties.

• Tabled an agreement with Crawfordsville Community Schools for two School Resource Officers from Crawfordsville Police Department. City officials need to clarify salary terms before taking action on the agreement.

• Approved work order requests from Barry Lewis, Code Enforcement Officer, to have city crews mow the following properties: 809 S. Walnut St., owned by Shaun Pyle; 283 W. Oak Hill Road, owned by Belinda Goins; 506 Wayne Ave., owned by Ashley Clark; and 1408 John St., owned by Joshua and Alyssa Ramer.
