Members of the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety opened bids Wednesday from three area companies vying for paving work in the city.
Bids were received from DC Construction Services of Pendleton in the total amount of $872,462; Midwest Paving of Noblesville in the total amount of $926,226; and Rieth-Riley Construction of Lafayette in the total amount of $996,363. All the bids were tabled for review.
The scope of work includes a total reconstruction of East Wabash Avenue from Wallace Avenue to Mill Street. This portion of the overall project will take most funds. Bids for that portion of the project ranged from $570,304 to $653,820.
Bids to resurface Ladoga Road from South Boulevard to C.R. 150S ranged from $83,292 to $92,631 and bids to resurface Grant Avenue from Pike Street to Market Street ranged from $30,571 to $34,723.
The project also includes resurfacing Seventh Street, Eighth Street, Brook Street, Morgan Street, Sycamore Drive, Thornwood Road, Sugartree Road and Simpson Street.
The city learned in late December that it was awarded $421,318 in matching grant funding through the second phase of the 2022 Indiana Community Crossing Matching Grant Fund Program to assist in local street maintenance and reconstruction projects. The program requires a dollar-for-dollar match of local funds, and the city will be matching the Community Crossings grant with an equal amount.
Launched in 2016, the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides funding to cities, towns, and counties across Indiana to make improvements to local roads and bridges. These grant dollars enable communities to help build and improve Indiana’s infrastructure.
In other business, the board:
• Approved lifting the unsafe building order at 1100 W. Market St. as repairs have been made.
• Agreed to again table discussion on the quotes received for a Chevy Equinox for the Crawfordsville Fire Department.
• Approved a request for a noise abatement until midnight on April 1 by Richard Pan of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
• Approved a request by Betty Sheets, 811 W. Main St., to close a portion of an alley along her property on April 3-4 for tree removal.
• Approved a request by Amanda White to place a dumpster at 1001 E. Market St. (on Pine Street) from March 24 through March 31.
• Approved a request by Susan George to place a dumpster at 101 E. Main St., using two parking spots, beginning March 29 for one week. This is the for the continued cleanup of Harry’s Hideout.
• Approved a request from Randy Hendrickson to place six streetlights along the newest portion of Ashton Run.
• Approved street closures and various requests regarding the 2023 Strawberry Festival, which is slated for June 9-11. There were no changes from previous years.
• Entered into an agreement with Strand & Associates for an engineering assessment of C.R. 150S from U.S. 231 to Ladoga Road in the amount of $23,000. The assessment is needed to begin seeking grant funding for improvements.
• Entered into an agreement between the city and Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana for $6,000. The foundation will offer professional assistance for training, meetings, and ongoing review of historic properties in downtown Crawfordsville.
• Approved a quit claim deed for property at 412 W. North St. The city acquired the property from the county in a tax sale. The property is being turned over to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter for a new build on the site.
