INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Association of School Business Officials Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott Bowling as the organization’s new executive director. He will begin the role effective July 1.

“Dr. Bowling was a standout amongst the impressive slate of candidates,” said Stephanie Pittman, IASBO board president. “Throughout our discussions, it was clear he had an immense passion for IASBO and its members. We are thrilled that he will be a champion for the organization, and he is well-positioned to lead us as we continue to develop new and innovative ways to serve our ever-growing membership.”

After graduating with an engineering degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Bowling quickly realized his passion for public education and was determined to devote his career to the field. He started as a math teacher at Avon High School and then began his journey through numerous positions in school administration. In 2014, Bowling took the helm as superintendent of the Crawfordsville Community School Corporation and was named Regional Superintendent of the Year in 2020. During his tenure, he has completed three educational administration degrees from Ball State University, including his doctorate in 2017 that received the Dissertation of the Year Award from the Ball State Alumni Association.

From building to district-level leadership, Bowling understands the unique and delicate balance required to maintain the education ecosystem. In addition to his extensive experience within schools, he has been deeply involved in IASBO activities. Bowling first completed his IASBO Chief Business Officer Certification in 2007. In 2011, he was nominated and elected as Region 4 Director of the IASBO Board, and in 2016 he became treasurer of the IASBO Board Executive Committee. In 2019, Bowling began his role as president of the IASBO board of directors. His dynamic and unwavering leadership that year inspired the board to vote for the first time in IASBO history to extend his presidency for a second year during the COVID-19 pandemic. As president, he was instrumental in shepherding the organization through the unprecedented challenges of the period.

“IASBO has meant so much to me over the years,” Bowling said. “I joined the organization as an education associate member when I was a middle school assistant principal back in 2003. I was immediately amazed at how willing everyone was to help me, even those who were experienced experts in the field. IASBO has always been a community of members who collaborate, support one another, and learn together. To think that I would someday be chosen to lead the organization is incredible to me. I am beyond excited to be your new executive director. This is truly a dream job for me. The theme of this year’s annual meeting was ‘Building the Future.’ I am honored to be a part of that process.”

Dr. Rex Ryker, the current assistant superintendent of the CCSC, will replace Bowling. Brent Bokhart, the current principal at Crawfordsville Middle School, will be the district’s next assistant superintendent. The moves were approved in a recent special meetingof the school board.
