CLOVERDALE — North Montgomery traveled to Cloverdale Friday and was defeated 72-38. The Clover’s good shooting and rebounding spelled doom for the Chargers.
With 2:15 left in the first quarter Cloverdale led 10-9 which they extended to 18-9 at the break. The Chargers would not score again until the 5:12 mark of the second period.
The Chargers were outscored 18-6 in the second quarter and Cloverdale led 36-15 at intermission. The Chargers would never get closer.
Cloverdale ended shooting 53 percent (25 of 47) from the field in the game. The Chargers connected on just 29 percent (14 of 48). The Clovers dominated the boards and finished the game with a 29 to 20 advantage.
North Montgomery coach Chad Arnold said despite the lopsided game, he saw improvement from last week’s loss to Speedway.
“The score doesn’t tell the story out there I don’t think,” Arnold said. “Our guys are growing. We just make some little mistakes, and when you play a good team like that can really shoot, they’re going to make you pay every time it seems like it.”
Cloverdale’s Kyle Thomas led all scorers with 24 points. He was joined in double figures by Nolan Kelley’s 16 and Walker Sims’ 15 points.
North Montgomery got 10 points apiece by Kerbe Cotrell and Jakob Kirsh. Cottrell also led the Chargers with six boards.
Arnold played 14 players in the game of which seven scored.
Arnold said he is seeing his young troop starting to show some growth.
“We are getting better and we played a lot of guys tonight, which we are going to continue to do,” Arnold said. “We are going to play these guys and keep growing as a team. I am proud of them. They played hard and if they keep this up, I like where we are going.”
The Chargers are scheduled to play Seeger next Friday and entertain Harrison on Saturday.
