The Montgomery County 4-H Junior Leaders are a special group of youth. Not only do they serve as positive role models and leaders for other 4-H members, they understand how to work together to meet a need in the community. One need in our community is hunger. Think hunger is just a problem that effects larger cities or other countries? According to a 2020 statistic, 13.9% of children in Montgomery County are food insecure. This means that they lack access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle.
At their February meeting, they partnered with Kids Against Hunger to package meals for those in need in the community. The mission of Kids Against Hunger is to provide fully nutritious food to children and families globally and locally. In just a short amount of time, 31 Junior Leaders packed 9 boxes, with each box containing 36 packages of food. Each package equals six meals. In total, they helped provide 1,944 meals for those in need. It took teamwork, communication, and leadership to work together to fill, weigh, seal, and pack meals that would help benefit those in our local community.
It is never too late to enroll in the 4-H program and join Junior Leaders. This additional leadership opportunity is for 4-H youth currently in grades 7-12.
