Candidates begin to file for office

Candidate filing for the Indiana 2024 Primary Election began Wednesday.

On the ballot at the county level will be the offices of Clerk, Recorder, Coroner, Surveyor, Commissioner District 1, Commissioner District 3 and Council At Large.

At the party level, voters will select Democratic Convention Delegates, Republican Convention Delegates and Republican Precinct Committeemen for all 27 precincts (Brown, Clark, Coal Creek, Crawfordsville 1-10, Franklin, Madison, Ripley, Scott, Sugar Creek, Union 1-7, Walnut and Wayne.

Candidates for federal, state and judicial offices file declaration of candidacy with the Indiana Secretary of State or the Indiana Election Division.

Other offices on the 2024 ballot are U.S. President, U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Represenatives, Governor, Attorney General, State House of Representaives and State Senate.

Deadline to file a declaration of candidacy is noon Feb. 9.

The deadline to register to vote in the primary is April 8.

Early voting begins April 27 and continues through May 6.

The primary is May 7. Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the county vote centers.

Candidates for school board may begin filing for office May 21 through June 20. Those candidates will appear on the General Election ballot along with the major and minor party candidates nominated in May.

On the November ballot will be two of the five Crawfordsville school board seats; three of the seven North Montgomery school board seats (Madison and North Union townships and an at large seat); and three of the seven South district seats (Scott, South Union and Ripley townships).

The General Election is Nov. 5.
