Steve Canfield has been appointed to serve on the Montgomery County Plan Commission.

He was appointed by Montgomery County Commissioners on Monday to replace Lynn Ringis, who resigned last week.

“He really cares about what we’re doing,” said Commissioner John Frey, who is president of the plan commission. “He asks a million questions. He’ll be good.”

Ringis’ resignation came after she was voted to take over as president of the Indiana Leadership Association. She is currently executive director of the Montgomery County Leadership Academy.

“It’s a good opportunity with Lynn taking on the state job,” Frey said.

Frey said Canfield and Mark Davidson will be sworn in prior to the plan commission’s meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Montgomery County Courthouse. Davidson was appointed by the county council to replace Terry Hockersmith.

On Wednesday, the plan commission will hear a proposed new chapter to the county’s zoning ordinance regarding the thoroughfare plan that’s currently being developed. Plan commission members are also expected to appoint one of its own members to the new Board of Zoning Appeals.
