13-year-old Thatcher Cass left the ring all smiles Monday night after his heifer, Nova, won the grand champion title at the Montgomery County Fair.
Thatcher, a fourth-year Clark Hustling Hoosier and rising seventh grader at Southmont Junio High School, is the son of Kelly and Chad Cass. His brother Spencer, a 10-year 4-H member, took home the fourth overall steer.
The championship comes three years after his reserve grand champion win during his first year showing beef.
“I saw her when she was just a baby,” Thatcher said. “They understand you after a while, and they know who you are.”
In addition to beef, Thatcher also shows sheep, rabbits and dogs, and participates in woodworking and aerospace.
