CFD blood drive planned May 8

Posted

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety gave approval to close Pike Street at Pike Place on May 8 for a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. The gates along Pike Street will close an hour before the event and re-open around 6:30 p.m.

Lt. Bryan Shaw with the Crawfordsville Fire Department said the blood drive is the first of three the department will conduct annually. The blood drives are required as part of the department’s recent partnership with Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Versiti Blood Center of Indiana, Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Emergency Department of Franciscan Health to be able to administer whole blood from a ground ambulance.

Last month, the CFD became first rural agency in the Midwest to offer the medical servie. By having access to the whole blood, CFD paramedics can provide critical care in trauma situations.

Versiti will park the bloodmobile along Pike Street for the blood drive event. Organizers hope to have at least 50 people participate. To learn more or to schedule a blood donation, vist https://donate.indiana.versiti.org/
