Character Counts! announces essay contest winners

Character Counts! in Montgomery County has announced the winners of this year’s Foundations of Life Essay Contest.

The contest is open to students in grades 3-12. All submissions are read by a panel of judges, which scores the essays based upon how students relate their chosen maxim to living a life focused on Character Counts! six pillars of character.

Winners receive monetary awards that are donated by Hoosier Heartland State Bank and Tri-County Bank & Trust.

The winners of the high school contest were:

• First place and overall winners tie: Claire Edwards and Lauren Hale, Crawfordsville

• Second place: Gwyneth Redding, Crawfordsville

• Third place tie: Maddison Northcutt, Arthur Ruaro and Ariel Spencer; Crawfordsville

Middle school contest winners were:

• First place and overall winner: Marshall Little, Southmont

• Second place: Grace Kearns, Crawfordsville

• Third place: Evelyn Zachary, Southmont

Elementary school contest winners were:

• First place an overall winner tie: Waylon Roose, Sugar Creek, and Lizzie Veach, Walnut

• Second place tie: Claire McCutchan, Ladoga, and Maddison Mullen, Sugar Creek

• Third place tie: Avery Langevin, New Market, and Kenlen McCoy, Sugar Creek
