Chargers aiming for consistency in year two under Dyson

Posted

A season ago Taylor Dyson took over the reigns of the North Montgomery volleyball program. In year one, the Chargers went 7-22. Their overall record really didn’t reflect how hard the Chargers played especially near the end of the season. Many of the Chargers sets ended being close with them falling just short. This season in year two for Dyson, she is aiming for her team to try and finish off those sets.

“We played several five-set matches last year, which showed our ability to compete,” Dyson said of her team. “This year our goal is consistency. With a year under most of our belts together, I think we are going to be able to finish out those sets on top. Our focus is limiting errors and playing hard the whole duration of the game whether that’s a three-set match or five-set match.”

In 2023 the Chargers will bring back setter Piper Ramey for her junior season along with many others from last years team including Annabel Anderson for her senior season. Kaydence Young and Ella Fritzen will be back for the Chargers along with Ayden Braun and others. With plenty of returning players from a year ago, Dyson noted how she’s excited to see how her group continues to develop.

“The thing that I am most excited for this group is to watch their chemistry on the court,” she said. “This team works so well together and can put together plays that are going to be competitive. They bring a lot of effort and energy to the gym every day and I except it to continue in competition.”

Key county games for the Chargers this season will be on Aug. 29 when they host Southmont and on Sep. 14 when they also host Crawfordsville. Dyson and the Chargers open up the season on Tuesday when they travel to Covington. Thursday they’ll be back on the road against Clinton Prairie before heading to compete in the North Putnam Invite on Saturday.

“A successful season with this group is going to be going for that .500 season.” Dyson said of her goals for her team.  “With this group I really believe it is achievable, but it doesn’t define the season. Success would be building on the foundation of work and commitment to the program and ultimately just improving and competing as a team. Last year was about laying the foundation, this year is about getting that winning feeling back for our team. “
