Chargers dominate Hot Dogs in SAC victory

FRANKFORT — North Montgomery traveled to Frankfort and came away with a 36-6 victory. The Chargers took care of business and stayed in the hunt for second place in the Sagamore Conference.

The Chargers (5-3, 4-2 SAC) took command of the game early in the first half. Two first quarter touchdown runs of 23 and eight yards by quarterback Ross Dyson spotted North to a 14-0 lead. North Montgomery expanded their lead in the second quarter with a five yard run by Cameron Enlow. Dyson added his third rushing touchdown from two yards out to send the teams into halftime with the Chargers leading 30-0.

Charger Coach Josh Thompson said he was glad his team was able to go on the road and take care of business.

“We talked to the kids all week and told them one or two plays won’t win the game,” Thompson said. “We played a lot of players and made plays to win the game.”

Noah Hopkins  scored on a four yard run with 6:25 left in the third quarter to place the game into a running clock situation. Thompson made the call to substitute freely and allowed the junior varsity to play in the final quarter.

“We tried to get some guys into the game tonight to see what they could do,” Thompson said. “For the most part those guys played pretty well.”

Like most teams at the end of the season, the Chargers are dealing with nicks and bruises. Two starters, wide receiver Roman Utterback and defensive tackle Mikeal Kincaid did not dress but are expected to return to action next week.

At one point, the Chargers were able to play enough linemen they had none going both ways.

Frankfort was able to move the ball at the end of the fourth quarter. After a Charger fumble gave the ball to the Hot Dogs on the Charger 37 yard line, Frankfort recorded their only score on an nine play drive with :38 left in the game.

North Montgomery totaled 235 yards to the Hot Dog’s 108. The Chargers took advantage of good field position the entire game. Several times the Chargers took the ball over on the Frankfort side of the field thanks largely to three turnovers.

Dyson led the Charger offense with 54 yards rushing and another 75 yards via the pass.

The Charger defense held the Hot Dog offense to a mere 16 yards at halftime. Frankfort gained most of their yards against the Charger junior varsity players in the final quarter.

North Montgomery will conclude the regular season next Friday at Charger Field against Danville. Thompson said the game is a big one for his squad.

“Danville is a very good team,” Thompson said. “Hopefully we can play well and get some momentum heading into the post season.”
