City employees to get a pay raise in 2020

City employees will get another pay raise in 2020, but it will be less generous than this year’s increases.

The 2020 budget was adopted Monday with a 2% increase for everyone except city council members, who voted to exempt themselves from the raise. It is the seventh time in eight years employees are receiving extra pay.

Salaries rose 6% for full-time civilian employees in 2019. Police and firefighters/paramedics were not included in that round because of large salary increases made possible with the public safety local income tax.

The council also set the salaries for Mayor Todd Barton, Clerk-Treasurer Terri Gadd and council members.

In other business, a tax abatement was approved for BD Fortunes LLC, which plans to build a Corda Boulevard warehouse for manufacturing and storing traffic signs. Traffic Control Specialists will employ 40 people.

The council also introduced an ordinance to vacate the north-south alley between 707 and 709 E. College St.
