City pays tribute to Working Women’s Recognition Month

Posted

Mayor Todd Barton signed a proclamation Thursday given to him by Crawfordsville Indiana Business & Professional Women President Kym Bushong proclaiming the month of November as Indiana Working Women’s Recognition Month in Crawfordsville.

This proclamation honors all working women for their accomplishments and recognizes their services to the community. The month is dedicated to these women who represent all phases of employment.

Working Women’s Recognition Month began in 2009 as a special event sponsored by the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women to honor all working women.

Traditionally, INFBPW has honored a working woman from the community in November each year. Recently, local members decided to recognize all working women in the community. In doing so, the women of Crawfordsville and Montgomery County, inspire and encourage other young women to enter the work force in roles and careers that are important to the future of our city, state, and nation.

The Crawfordsville Chapter of the INFBPW celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. These women have been encouraging and inspiring young women to enter the work force for over a century. When first formed, women had recently earned the right to vote. Over the years, this organization has been a major part of the advancement of the role of women in our society.

Today women have the opportunity to fill many roles in our society that would have been undreamt of when the organization began as we have slowly worked our way towards true equality.

The group’s next meeting is Tuesday at the Youth Service Bureau, 808 W. Pike St., Crawfordsville. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and program at 6 p.m. Reservations may be made through https://www.facebook.com/CrawfordsvilleWomensBusinessGroup.
