Clinton “Bud” C Murray III, 87, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.

He was born Dec. 19, 1936, at Rockport, Indiana, to the late Clinton and Agnes (Kendall) Murray.

Before moving to Crawfordsville, Clint studied at Purdue University for two years and was a proud Delta Tau Delta fraternity member. He spent his career working for RR Donnelley, first as a proofreader, then as a bookbinder for custom leather books. He once had the honor of preparing a binding for Prince Charles III (now King Charles III).

In his retirement, he focused on an 83-acre field in Crawfordsville known as The Lye Creek Prairie Burn, which he transformed into a federally protected wetland for birding. The Burn attracts birders from all over the country, and sometimes further, to see Smith’s Longspur and other species. Aside from maintaining his field and birding, he enjoyed photography, technology, watching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Clint is survived by his children, Lynn Zimmerman of Bradenton, Florida and Stuart Murray (Tamaira) of Rockport, Texas; former wives with whom he remained friends, Jean Holland – the mother of his children – and Elizabeth Ann Hatfield; sister Pat Eicher; grandchildren, Nick Zimmerman, Sam Venable, Tiana Dottin, Jacob Murray, Heather Hatfield, Bailey Combs, Robbie Combs and Alice Combs; and great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen with memorial service to be held at a later date. Questions about the memorial can be sent to RememberingClintMurray@gmail.com. Sanders Priebe Funeral Care is entrusted with care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Clint’s memory to the Indiana Audubon Society or Eagle Creek Park Foundation.
