RUSSELLVILLE — Cold Spring Solar Farm, a proposed 200 MW solar facility in Montgomery and Putnam Counties, announced that it will open its local office at the Russellville Community Center this month.
The solar project will pay $12,000 to the community center to cover its first year of rent. The payment will help fund building maintenance and programs at the community center.
“The Cold Spring Solar Farm is committed to making a positive impact, and by opening our local office at the Russellville Community Center we’re able to create benefits for the local community and our business at the same time,” said Nick Gentry, local representative for the Cold Spring Solar Farm.
Solar farm representatives will hold regular office hours at the community center to help the public learn about solar energy and the proposed Cold Spring Solar project.
The community center has been operating since 1999 in the former Russellville Elementary School building. It provides a space for the local community to host events like roller skating nights, dances, weddings and community dinners.
Darrell Wiatt, former principal of Russellville Elementary School, worked to open the community center and has been engaged ever since in making it a resource for his community.
“We’re thrilled to have Cold Spring Solar Farm as a new tenant in the Russellville Community Center and we think they made a smart choice in picking this location,” Wiatt said. “This facility is an important place for people in our area and the new revenue will help us continue serving our community.”
An economic study of the Cold Spring Solar Farm led by an Indiana University professor found that the project would contribute approximately $40 million in tax payments to local counties over its lifetime. The project would also generate 332 jobs and a $36 million contribution to the local economy during construction.
Cold Spring Solar Farm is still in the development process and would not start construction before 2024, pending all applicable approvals. The project will need to complete its field studies and surveys, finalize design, obtain permits, and other steps before it can begin construction.
