Commissioners receive update on IDEM cleanup

Montgomery County Commissioners have received notice from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management that the cleanup of the Tri-County Petroleum property located on U.S. 231 South has been completed. The gas tanks on the property have been removed and the ground has been tested.

Commissioners must now execute and record a restrictive covenant on the property. The covenant will list restrictive uses for the property in the future. The covenants must be followed by the county to dispose of the property.

The Owner Occupied Rehabilitation program with THRIVE West Central Indiana continues to come to a close, however, commissioners are requesting a three-month extension with the Office of Community Affairs. The purpose of the extension is to complete the work on existing projects and to close out the grant.

A new fund ordinance was heard on first reading. The Montgomery County Health Department will use the funds for the cleanup of properties with health violations. The funds will be used on properties designated properties declared a nuisance by county officials.

The annual ordinance establishing a fund for Drug Free Montgomery County was approved. The grant funds several mini-grants to be used for the fight against drug abuse.

Commissioners also approved the 2027 use of Opioid Settlement Funds.

Chief Probation Office Andria Geigle received approval to purchase a 2026 Chevrolet Traverse to replace their 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The funds are already budgeted in the Probation Office budget.

William Kellerman was appointed to the Crawfordsville District Public Library Board.

A petition for a hearing date to vacate an alley in Ladoga from Elizabeth Summers was not approved.
