WAVELAND — Emergency crews recovered the body of an 18-year-old Rockville man who fell into a grain bin in Waveland on Friday and became entrapped.

Colten Howard, an employee of Ramsay Farms, was reported missing just after noon Friday. He and another farm employee were working at the grain bins near State Road 59 and Old Ford Road when Howard disappeared and became engulfed in the grain.

Firefighters from Waveland and Crawfordsville spent almost nine hours searching for Howard before his body was located. Deputy Todd Walsh with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the young man’s body was discovered in the grain.

Throughout the day firefighters took turns inside the bin searching for Howard, while others worked to remove the grain from the bin. Efforts were made to haul away the corn as it was drained from the bin, but eventually corn was allowed to pile up on the ground. Firefighters also used saws to make multiple cuts to the sides of the bin to drain the corn.

Other agencies responding to the scene were the Indiana State Police, Waveland Town Marshal and the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency.
