Maggie Michael can now add Miss Montgomery County to her resume as she was announced as the 2022 Montgomery County 4-H Saturday evening at the 4-H Fairgrounds at the 64th annual Queen Contest.

The recent North Montgomery graduate is the daughter of Pat and Tonya Michael. Micahel, who will attend Clemson University in the fall, took the title from the group of four queen candidates. To go along with the title of Queen, Michael was also named the Beef Queen and took home Co-Miss Congeniality.

“It feels amazing and I was shocked when they called my name,” Michael said of being named queen. “With everyone cheering and clapping for me, it was a great feeling knowing that they were all as happy for me as I was.”

Michael is a 10-year member of the 4-H program and is involved with countless projects. During the contest in one of her interview questions, Michael was asked what the 4-H slogan meant to her. Along with mentioning what she’s involved with, Michael talked about what the 4-H program has meant to her over the years.

“I do four projects overall that include woodworking, photography, crafts, and showing off cows,” she said. “4-H to me is all about the community and getting them together. Getting to do this with my family and friends means a lot. To be able to represent such a great community like we have here feels amazing.”

With her being named Miss Montgomery County, Michael will now get the opportunity to represent the county at the Indiana State Fair in the State Queen Pageant.

“It’ll be nerve-wracking for sure,” she said. “There will be a ton of girls there who are all extremely amazing, but I’m just glad that I’ll get the chance to experience it and compete in another contest.”

Morgan Swick was announced as first runner-up in the contest behind Michael. Miranda Crowe took home the title of Miss Princess while also winning the Elaine Chamber Mental Attitude award and sharing Co-Miss Congeniality with Michael.

The full field of seven contestants included Kennady Sanders, Courtlyn Carpenter, Ava Cooper, Mady Bush to go along with Crowe, Swick, and Michael.

The Montgomery County 4-H fair officially gets underway this Friday and lasts until Thursday July, 21.
