C’ville man facing charges in bus crash

PARKE COUNTY — A Crawfordsville man is facing charges after the Parke County Sheriff’s Office said he was intoxicated when he crashed into a passenger bus last month.

Deputies arrested Michael A. Thomas, 35, in connection with a crash that occurred just before 2 p.m. July 24 at U.S. 41 and State Road 47.

Authorities said Thomas crashed into a passenger bus owned by Sugar Valley Canoe Rental that was carrying several passengers at the time of the collision. Thomas was arrested Tuesday.

Thomas faces the following charges of causing serious bodily injury while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while endangering a person less than 18 years old, theft — use when property is a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was jailed on a $15,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon in Parke County Circuit Court for an intitial hearing.
