Each year since 1936, Indiana DAR- Dorothy Q Chapter invites Montgomery County Schools to name their “good citizens” to participate. Each student composed an original 500-word Essay Tittle: “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for preserving it, with a” Focus Question: “What are the civic responsibilities of a good citizen and why are these duties, activities and behaviors important to the shaping of the America you hope to experience?”

Only one student is selected from each of the County High Schools for the DAR Good Citizen Award. And only 1 student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen.
