Davis scholars recognized

Posted

Southmont would like to express their gratitude to Wabash College and to Chip Timmons for all that they do for our scholars to allow them to further their education in the best ways possible. We are forever grateful to be a part of such a great community.

Chip Timmons, Dean of Enrollment Management at Wabash College says, “Southmont students and their families continue to benefit from the extraordinary and visionary philanthropy of Sybil and Herman Davis. The Southmont graduates enrolled at Wabash College continue to distinguish themselves in and out of the classroom, and I believe enrollment leaders would say the same of their scholarship recipients on their campuses.”

History has it that Herman and Sibyl Davis were longtime benefactors of Wabash College and the Ladoga community. Herman graduated from Wabash in 1925. Through the years, Mr. and Mrs. Davis were generous supporters of various charitable causes to assist people in need. In 1991, Mr. Davis requested to have any remaining funds from his charitable trust, upon his death, to be distributed to Wabash College to create The Sibyl and Herman Davis Scholarship Fund.

The Davis Scholarship Fund was created to both reward Southmont High School graduates for outstanding academic effort and to assist graduates in need of help to attend Wabash College or another college or university. The fund also seeks to honor and keep the Davis name as part of the pioneering spirit of the Ladoga community and to support local students in their pursuit of higher education.

Four merit scholarships are awarded annually to recipients who have been accepted at any duly accredited college or university as well as 4 need-based scholarships, 2 of which shall be available solely for students attending Wabash College and the others to any duly accredited college or university. The need-based scholarships are valued at up to tuition and mandatory fees at the college attending or your financial need, whichever is less, for all 4 years.

This year’s merit scholarship winners are Megan Andrews, Alana Bowman, Jessica Bradley and Hanna Long.

The need-based scholarship recipients are Alana Bowman, Kasey Line, Calinn Murphy and Wyatt Woodall.
