Dorothy Q Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution

Posted

The Dorothy Q Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, came together at 1 p.m. Dec. 16, to enjoy an Old Time Christmas Gathering with a cookie exchange and singing of Christmas carols.

A short business meeting was called to order by Regent Michele Borden, as she welcomed 11 members and one guest to our beautifully decorated Chapter House. The November minutes were read by Terri Fyffe and treasurer’s report was given by Rachel Brown.

Borden reported that pictures of our 125th anniversary party and wreath project were in the Journal Review. A call went out to someone to take over the scrapbook project for the year. Gloria White volunteered. Thank you, Gloria.

We received a thank you from Dick Ristine for his father’s, Richard Ristine, banner. Borden has received calls and a visit asking about banners for next year. We are happy that this project to honor our veterans continues to be popular.

Borden gifted Terri Fyffe and Susan Fisher for helping her finish the House decorations, after our Chapter date for that project had to be cancelled. She designated 1 p.m. Jan. 7, 2024 as the day to meet to put away decorations and cemetery wreaths.

Barb Taylor reported for Judy Fifer that 1,600 coupons were mailed to military bases last month. The membership collected money today for the DAV Christmas donation, which the Chapter will match. That check will be presented to Jason Black, Montgomery County Disabled Veterans Commander.

Our recording secretary, Gay Eagleston, will be having surgery in January. Please keep her in your thoughts. Also, Borden asked the  membership to be looking for grants we can apply for, to help the Elston foundation in House repairs. It’s also time to nominate a new slate of officers. This slate is to be presented to the Chapter in April. Who will step up?

As per usual, we will not meet in January. Our next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 17, 2024, when Susan Fisher will tell us about her Patriot, James Dill, and Dill’s Tavern in Pennsylvania, which is still in operation.

Thank you to this month’s hostess committee of Michele Borden, chair, Terri Fyffe, Susan Fisher and Rachel Brown for the yummy treats along with everyone who brought cookies for the exchange. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
