Local Crawfordsville veteran James “Fred” Fruits prepares for his flight in a restored 1940s Boeing-Stearman biplane Thursday morning at Eagle Creek Airpark. Fruits, a resident of Ben Hur Health and Rehab in Crawfordsville, was one of seven Hoosier veterans honored during the event through Dream Flights, a nonprofit organization that provides veterans and seniors with flights in restored Stearman biplanes. The aircraft was used to train military pilots during World War II. The event was a partnership between the Indiana Health Care Association/Indiana Center for Assisted Living and Dream Flights to honor Hoosier military veterans and share their stories with the community.
