Early morning crash claims woman’s life

An Indianapolis woman died Monday morning following a crash on Interstate 74.

At approximately 5:07 a.m. the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a car-deer crash at the 39 mile-marker on Interstate 74.

Regina Shamp, 64, of Indianapolis was driving a 2021 Hyundai Tucson and struck a deer. After striking the deer, Shamp’s vehicle was stopped in the slow lane of Interstate 74, for westbound traffic. At approximately 5:18 a.m., a second crash was reported at the same location. David C. Angeles, 37, of Depauw, Indiana was westbound on Interstate 74 driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and collided with Shamp’s vehicle.

Shamp died at the scene and Angeles was transported with minor injuries to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved in the crash.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 74 were shut down until 8:15 a.m. Monday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash and it remains under investigation. They were assisted at the scene by Crawfordsville Fire Department, Montgomery County Coroner and Froedge’s Towing.
