Elmer “Jack” Edwards, 75, of Waynetown, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at home with family surrounding him.
Jack was born Sept. 26, 1947, at Edmonton, Kentucky, to the late William “Elmer” and Gladys Blades Edwards. On Dec. 20, 1971, Jack married the love of his life, Erika Romer, who survives. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter and shared dreams.
Jack’s journey in life was marked by his dedication and service to this country and community. He proudly graduated from Metcalfe County High School in Kentucky and then served in the U.S. Army, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. He later earned an associate degree in HVAC from Ivy Tech Community College.
Jack’s legacy in the community was perhaps best defined by his role as the founder and operator of Edwards Heating and Cooling. Through his business, he touched the lives of many, providing comfort to homes and businesses throughout the region.
A proud citizen of Waynetown, Jack was a member of Waynetown Baptist Church and dedicated himself to serving his community in various roles, including as town marshal, Wayne Township trustee, member of the town board and contributor to the Waynetown Merchant Association. He also found joy in coaching baseball, fast pitch and softball, always cheering on his granddaughters during their sporting events.
Most importantly, Jack cherished his role as a father to his daughter, Tina (Aaron) Townsend and as a grandpa to his four granddaughters, Brittany (Lonnie) England, Kaitlin Townsend, Kirstin (Tyler) Dillion and Olivia (Hunter) Bennett, as well as his three great-grandsons, LJ England, Milo Dillon and Brooks Dillon.
Jack also found joy in golfing and had a deep passion for gospel and Bluegrass music.
Also surviving are sisters, Janet (Edwards) Hochstetler and Judy Edwards; brother Andy (Pamela) Edwards; sister-in-law Sandra Edwards; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buddy Edwards, Phillip Edwards, Rex Edwards, Leroy Edwards and Jimmy Edwards; and sisters, Donna (Edwards) Baker and Faye (Edwards) Harvey.
At Jack’s request, a celebration of life will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Hidden Hollow Farm Event Center Venue (owned by Tina and Aaron)at 4519 W. C.R. 300N, Crawfordsville. Following at 7 p.m. the celebration will close with final words from Pastor Ron Raffignone and Jack’s good friend Randy Perigo. Military honors will be offered by American Legion Post #72 Honor Guard. The family requests casual attire.
