Butler University student Abigail Eutsler of Linden recently received three scholarships and will lead the Sigma Alpha Iota Zeta chapter as its president during 2023-24. She was also named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester.

Eutsler received a scholarship from the Indiana Retired Teachers Association Foundation. The scholarship is awarded to help promote the teaching profession and assist college students who have a passion for the classroom. The foundation awards 10 scholarships, one in each of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association geographic areas, in which it is organized.

The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis notified her that she is the recipient of the national Abbott Scholarship. One of Freemasonry’s fundamental principles is the belief in the importance of the educated mind. The Scottish Rite fosters the value of education through the Abbott Scholarship Fund. The Abbott Scholarship Program provides financial support for the continuing undergraduate and graduate education of Scottish Rite Masons, young men and women from Scottish Rite families, and Masonic-related youth groups.

For the third consecutive year, Eutsler was named an Indiana Scholar of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, Free and Accepted Masons by the Grand Lodge of Indiana Scholarship Board, Inc. Indiana Freemasons are dedicated to supporting post-secondary education for their members and families. The selection was based on several criteria, including evidence of academic achievement and community service. Grand Master Gary E. Brinley will present the scholarship during a program and reception at the AASR Cathedral in Indianapolis on July 9.

Eutsler was elected Sigma Alpha Iota Zeta Chapter president at Butler University. The women’s music fraternity exists to uphold the highest standards of music and to further the development of music in America and worldwide by providing musical and educational resources to its members and the public.

For the Spring 2023 semester, Eutsler was named to the Jordan College of the Arts Dean’s List with a 3.950-grade point average while carrying a 20-credit hour load. Degree-seeking undergraduate students earning at lead 12 academic hours of graded credit in a given semester in their college of enrollment at the beginning of a term are eligible for the honor if their semester G.P.A. is in the top 20 percent of all eligible students in that college for that term.

As a freshman, Eutsler was the recipient of the Efroymson Prize for Diversity in Vocal Performance and the Woman’s Department Club of Indianapolis Music Merit Award scholarships.

Earlier this year she earned 2nd Place in the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Great Lakes Region Auditions in Classical Second Year Treble.

In April, Eutsler performed in the Butler Chorale with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at Hilbert Circle Theatre to world premiere Composer Augusta Read Thomas’s “Toward a Secret Sky,” commissioned by ISC, conducted by Dr. Eric Stark, ISC Artistic Director and Butler Chorale Director.

Next May, Eutsler will perform throughout Brazil, during the Butler Chorale’s South American tour. Locally, she has performed at the annual Crawfordsville Strawberry Festivals and in productions at Myers Dinner Theatre and The Vanity Theatre.

This fall Eutsler begins year three of five in pursuing a Bachelor of Music in the School of Music with Choral Music Education and Vocal Performance dual major. She is an applied music voice student of Dr. Oliver Worthington, Associate Professor, Vocal Area Coordinator, and Producing Director of the Butler Opera Theatre.
