Extension Office offers learning opportunities

Posted

There are many upcoming learning opportunities available for pesticide applicators, land owners and farmers and gardeners.

On Dec. 7, I will be hosting a PARP in Tippecanoe County for farmers to get the PARP credits they need to keep their pesticide license. They are renewed every five years, and each licensed applicators need to obtain three PARP credits within those five years. No more than two credits awarded in one calendar year. So, if your license expires at the end of 2022, I highly recommend you attend this PARP, or another local county’s PARP. Go to https://ppp.purdue.edu/ to see where other PARPS are being hosted.

Do you own land that you cash rent out to a local farmer or are you the farmer that farms rented land? Do you feel a bit lost and feel like you just go through the motions each year with the agreements? Do you want to learn more about contracts for the cash-rent agreement? I have a class for you.

Be sure to attend from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and Feb. 8 at the 4-H Exhibit Hall. The Power of Information and Open Conversation: A Land Leasing Series for Women in Agriculture program is a Risk Management Education funded grant between Kansas, Nebraska and Indiana that focuses on land lease basics, written lease agreements, landlord-tenant communication, negotiations and conservation that is open to all, not just women.

Lastly, I want to welcome all those who are interested in becoming more involved in the community through volunteerism and gardening. For Spring 2023, there will be a Statewide Virtual Purdue EMG Basic Training offered weekly from Feb. 7 through May 9. Many counties have come together to offer this program which includes a local county connection hour. The statewide live webinars will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Here in Montgomery County, the local county connection hour will be on 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays. This will be offered in-person at the 4-H Exhibit Hall on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

The class costs $180, which includes the pint version of the Purdue EMG Manual.
