COVINGTON — Firefighters and emergency responders responded to a fire at The Beef House Restaurant in Covington on Monday morning, leaving extensive smoke damage throughout the building.

Emergency crews were called to the restaurant around 9:45 a.m.

James E. Miller Jr., Vermillion County EMA/911 director, said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire “swiftly and promptly,” but the interior of the building and kitchen sustained extensive smoke damage.

The fire was determined to have been caused by a faulty electrical panel in the industrial portion of the restaurant. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was also called to the scene.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters remained on the scene into the afternoon.

The restaurant’s owner was unavailable for comment Monday.

Responding agencies included fire departments from Perrysville, Cayuga, Newport, Covington, West Lebanon, Williamsport and Danville, Illinois. Parke County EMS, Vermillion County EMA, the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, Vermillion County Health Department and Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office also assisted.
