WAYNETOWN — The Waynetown Volunteer Fire Department responded Thursday to a house fire at  8910 W. C.R. 150N.

Upon arrival firefighters found a significant amount of smoke and flames coming from within the house.

The house is owned by Brian and Laura Doan who were not at home at the time of the fire. A family pet is believed to have been inside the burning structure and did not survive.

The house is considered a total loss according to Waynetown Volunteer Fire Department Chief Phil Pirtle.

In the extreme heat the responding units were thankful to receive bags of ice from the Waynetown Value Gas Station while on the scene. Two firefighters experienced overheating and had to retire to air conditioned vehicles.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal visited the scene Thursday evening to determine the cause and origin of the fire. No details have been released.

Responding emergency units were the Waynetown Fire Department, Hillsboro Fire Department, Alamo Fire Department, Crawfordsville Fire Department, Crawfordsville EMS, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Waynetown Police.
