Flower Lovers and Garden Club

Posted

The first meeting of The Flower Lovers and Garden Club was at 1 p.m. March 6 at St. John’s social hall. Members received their 2024 membership books and name tags. The business meeting was called to order by Vice President Denise Ducharme. She welcomed everyone back after a short break during January and February.

Hostesses were Terri Trinkle, Paula Furr, Ruth Hallett and Diane Fairfield. Each table had a centerpiece with some of Hallett’s Faberge eggs, rabbits from Paula Furr’s collection and marshmallow peeps. A prayer was said and everyone enjoyed the delicious refreshments.

Denise Ducharme called everyone back to order.

Roll call was taken by responding with a favorite spring flower. There were 30 members present out of a total membership of 44. The business meeting began with a review of the 2024 membership book.

Karen Thada will be the guest speaker for the April meeting. She will do a presentation about the eclipse on April 8. Furr purchased eclipse glasses for each member.

The Garden Walk of 2025 was presented for discussion. Members should be looking for gardens. A committee will be organized to finalize the garden choices.

The meeting in May will be a field trip to Sun Down Gardens in Westfield and Eagleson Meadows in Sheridan. Members will need to sign up for the trip.

There was discussion about choosing a garden of the month for June, July and August. The garden should be seen from the street and will be presented a garden of the month sign. The sign will be passed on to the next garden. An article will be written about each garden and submitted to the newspaper.

Members who volunteered to care for one of the flower pots in downtown Crawfordsville will plant 12 pansies. Weather permitting the pansies will be planted the first of April. Some flower pots will be receiving new soil.

Members were reminded to bring 10 self-addressed and stamped envelopes to receive the monthly newsletter. The envelopes should be given to Hallett. Janet Hook will be writing the monthly newsletter — Perenially Yours.

Pro Green and Davidson’s Greenhouse will be offering a 10% discount on purchases to all members.

Lana Presslor presented the treasurer’s report.

Each member received The Gardener’s Idea Book filled with examples of many different types of gardens.

There was a raffle for a beautiful poinsettia. The lucky winner was Belinda Grimble.

The meeting was adjourned.
