Flower Lovers met in Westfield for lunch at the restaurant Grindstone on the Monon on April 6. Eighteen members were present. President Karen Cook welcomed members.

Cook stated that several monetary donations had been presented to Flower Lovers in memory of deceased members Betty Carver and Mary Laube.

Cook reminded members to sign up and pay for the May 3 Brunch and Business Meeting to be held at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church. Brunch is catered by Trish Schwabe. Decorated May baskets will be distributed to The Ben Hur Nursing Home.

Members were also encouraged to sign up for the Annual June Pitch-In Picnic and Plant Auction held June 7 at Milligan Park North Shelter.

Terri Trinkle, coordinator of the downtown planters reported that all of the planters have been planted with pansies purchased from Pro Green Garden Center. Spring has arrived in Downtown Crawfordsville.

Paula Furr, gave a report for the Flower Lovers Garden and Art Tour Committee.  The Flower Lovers Garden and Art Tour will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m June 25. There will be eight locations on the tour. Tickets and posters have been printed. These will be distributed at the May meeting. Each member is required to sell tickets.

Snack bags and bottled water were provided by hostesses Anita Arnold, Nancy Bowes, Ruby Burkhart and Jan Horner.  The group then traveled to Perennials Plus in Westfield.

The staff at Perennials Plus provided a tour around the 16 acres of greenhouses and grounds. Nine greenhouses and 25 full-time employees provide thousands of plants, trees and bushes for many nurseries and retail stores in Indiana. Perennials Plus sells 80% of their products as a wholesale distributor and 20% retail to the public. They have a website and are open to the public.

Several Flower Lover members purchased annuals and perennials.

Flower Lovers Garden Club is 102 years old and is the oldest Flower Lovers Club in Indiana. If interested in joining contact any member.
