Flower Lovers Garden Club

The Flower Lovers Garden Club met in the social room of St. John’s at 1 p.m. April 3. Thirty-one members were present and three guests. President Karen Cook called the business meeting to order.

The first item for discussion was the May first trip to Westfield. Lunch will be at The Mash House at 11 a.m. followed by a tour of Sundown Gardens and Eagleson Meadows. A sign-up sheet was passed around to get a head count of members planning to attend.

The next item for discussion was to determine if any members were interested in being cochairs for the 2025 Garden Walk. The June meeting will be the Picnic and Plant Auction at Milligan Park in the North Shelter beginning at 11 a.m. It will be a pitch-in lunch followed by an auction of plants provided by the members.

A prayer was said by Karen Cook before refreshments. Hostesses were Linda Crispin, Donna Walton, Deb Borowsky and Marty Heinold. Crispin made a model of the eclipse for each table.

After refreshments, Paula Furr passed out eclipse glasses to each member and our guests. Cook introduced guest speaker Karen Thada. She had a slide show of the various stages of the eclipse and a map of the best viewing areas in addition to the duration of the total eclipse in these areas. Thada’s presentation provided a wealth of information on solar and lunar eclipses. After the presentation, the business meeting continued.

Members with birthdays in April were acknowledged.

Discussion topics began with participation in the flower contest at the Farmers Market. It was decided that we would not participate in the flower contest because we maintain the downtown flower pots. Members decided we will not be caring for a garden plot at Lew Wallace since we donated a bench in 2021.

Plans are in progress for choosing Garden of the Month for June, July and August. One garden has been selected with two more to be confirmed. Gardens will be chosen that can easily be seen from the street.

A thank you card from Anita Arnold was shared.

The final item of business was from Dorothy Fogel who wanted to confirm that all members were on the email thread.

The next business meeting will be July 3 in St. John’s social room at 1 p.m. If anyone is interested in The Flower Lovers Garden Club you are welcome to attend a meeting as a guest.
