Throw out the records and strap up the helmets.
With just one win combined between the two, Crawfordsville and Southmont will meet on Friday night with bragging rights on the line.
“It is a huge game for us this week,” Southmont coach Desson Hannum said. “Being a county and conference game, we definitely want to win the game.”
Southmont last won during its season opener in week 2 at home against North Putnam and enter the game at 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Sagamore Conference. Crawfordsville is 0-4, including an 0-2 mark in the SAC and follows a 56-0 shutout loss at Danville last Friday, in which the Athenians only netted three total yards.
Crawfordsville has battled injuries on both sides of the ball in the early part of the season, and are relying on young players to fill the gaps.
“Every team experiences some kind of adversity and our young players have embraced the opportunity they have been given,” Crawfordsville coach Kurt Schlicher said.
The Athenians had success offensively through the first three weeks until last weeks’ blunder, and Hannum knows the Mounties will have to be ready after giving up a combined 58 points over the last two games.
“Crawfordsville’s offense provides some challenges because they want to spread us out and put us in space,” he said. “We have to be aggressive and tackle in space. This week in practice has been focused on blocking, tackling, and being more consistent in each phase of the game.”
Kaiden Underwood leads the Athenians through the air with 434 passing yards, while Isaiah McMasters leads the Mounties’ offense with 165 rushing yards.
Southmont owns four-straight wins over Crawfordsville, with the Athenians last win coming 21-13 back in the 2016 regular season.

North Montgomery is ready to make some noise.
The Class 3A No. 7 ranked and undefeated Chargers will travel to Western Boone on Friday night for their toughest test of the 2020 season so far.
The Stars are just 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Sagamore Conference play, but 29 wins in 30 games and two Class 2A state titles still jogs most memories connected to football in west central Indiana. Regardless, North Montgomery is ready to compete.
“We are playing with confidence but we have to make sure we are ready from the start,” Chargers’ coach Josh Thompson said. “We had a slow start last week and we were able to dig ourselves out of a big hole but we cannot afford for that to happen this week. The team believes that if they practice well during the week and show up on Friday night that they will have a chance to have success.”
Western Boone beat North Montgomery last year 28-14, tied for its second closest margin of victory in a 14-1 campaign that ended with a 44-7 win over Eastbrook at Lucas Oil Stadium. The last win for the Chargers over the Stars came back in 2014.
Robby Taylor leads Western Boone with 492 yards rushing, while Zak Searle has 506 and quarterback Donavan Haworth has thrown for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns, including 14 catches for 268 yards from Logan Kelly.
