FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Mustangs will carry positive approach

Posted

Fountain Central football continued to struggle in 2020 with just one win, but things are looking up for the Mustangs entering 2021.

The young players that struggled against older competition the last two seasons are now juniors and seniors. Mix them with the talented young players and Fountain Central is eager to get the season started.

“These juniors and seniors have been playing on Friday nights since they were freshmen, so we are expecting their experience to pay off this season,” FC coach Ryan Hall said. “We also played 3-4 freshmen last season, which gives us even more experience.”

The top returners for Fountain Central include Austin Pickett, Owen Acton, Luke Foxworthy, Imanol Barradas, Jordan Melvin, Isaac Gayler, Dawson Blue, Layne Lynch, Ely Thompson, and Bryan Chirinos.

Pickett was the Mustangs’ leading rusher last season with 649 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Owen Acton added 278 yards on the ground. Foxworthy returns 50 tackles from last season and Acton 37.

AJ Hall is expected to step into the quarterback role, while Caven Brown, Zach Guerin, Dallas Hoagland, and Jacob Krout are all expected to make an impace this season for the Mustangs.

Hall feels like this seasom has good chemistry and toughness, it will just come down to believing in themselves every Friday night.

“We want to stay healthy, be great teammates, believe in what we’re doing, and understand what is trying to be accomplished every Friday night,” he said. “We want to start winning games and being competitive. And we want to be playing our best football when the sectional starts.”
