Singer songwriter Abbie Thomas is thrilled to announce the release of her long-awaited debut single, Those 3 Words, available today on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play and all other music platforms by the end of April.

Thomas, who now calls Goshen, Indiana  home, is a 2004 graduate of Crawfordsville High School. She is the daughter of Tony and Christie Thomas, Crawfordsville. According to her website, Thomas grew up singing in her guitar-playing father’s churches with her mother, who once was a trio member with Crystal Gayle. Early musical influences such as The Beatles and Karen Carpenter came from her parents, while far more eclectic influences like Lauren Hill, James Morrison, and even film scores came later.

In 2014, she was discovered at a Nashville photography convention while playing “Sweet Pea,” an Amos Lee hit, in a circle of local photographers who were passing around a guitar. After encouragement from industry bookers she played her first open mic in 2018 and immediately silenced the room with her original song, Try.

Using music as personal therapy, her songwriting became a mission after a series of personal battles gave her lyrics and career intentions a deeper meaning — letting others know they’re not alone.

The lyrics and music for the pop song Those 3 Words were written by Thomas, and she partnered with Goshen’s Sam Brown and Elijah Durnell to produce the track. Durnell gave guidance on how to keep the song in the genre lane Thomas was looking for, while Brown managed the recording and beat production. Thomas also played the main guitar and piano tracks on the record, while Brown, in addition to his other contributions, sang the background vocals.

“I’ve been playing my music either all on my own or with a Cajon player, but knew my songs, especially Those 3 Words, had so much more in them if they were fully produced,” Thomas said. “After so many people at live shows asked if I had any music on Spotify, I met with Sam and Elijah in the fall of 2019 to talk about making that happen. At the end of the meeting, all three of us were beyond excited to work together. Those boys really brought the best out of the song, and Sam’s production skills absolutely blew me away.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic occurring, Thomas thought releasing a more positive, upbeat song would be a great place to start.

Last year was a breakout year for her with support from the local music scene. In just one year, she leapt from open mics to opening for female touring singer songwriter, Callaghan. She also earned a fan in Grammy Award winner, Jim Peterik (Eye of the Tiger), during her time as a finalist in Michigan’s Acorn Theater Songwriting contest.

“The only reason 2019 was such a great year was because of the music community in Northern Indiana,” Thomas said. “So many great musicians and venues rallied around me, and it’s the encouragement from that community that has pushed me to face my fears, and finally release original music — a childhood dream.”

This year looks to be another exciting year for Thomas. She plans to release a new single about every two months through the end of the year in addition to adding a full band for bigger venues and festivals.
