Fourth teen charged in shooting

A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Rockville man in what investigators say was a planned robbery at Milligan Park.

Korbin Brock Jones, 17, of Waynetown, has been arrested and is being charged as an adult in connection with the March 5 death of 31-year-old Kaleb Isabell. Court documents indicate four people planned the robbery for several days before the shooting.

Jones is charged with murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. The same charges have also been filed against Draco Alan Lee Farris-Clark, 18, Zayden Michael White, 18, and Adrien Wesley Cottom, 19, all of Crawfordsville. Farris-Clark faces an additional felony murder charge because investigators say he was the gunman.

Police were called to Milligan Park around 9:50 p.m. March 5 after a woman reported that a man she was with had been shot in the chest. Officers arrived to find Isabell inside his silver Volkswagen Passat suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman told investigators she and Isabell had traveled from Lafayette after someone contacted Isabell through Snapchat asking to buy drugs. According to the affidavit, the Snapchat account arranging the meeting used the name “Draco.”

After arriving at the park, the woman said a man wearing a white hoodie and black sweatpants approached the vehicle and began counting money on the hood of the car. After counting the cash, he handed it through the driver’s side window to Isabell.

Isabell then turned and passed the money to the woman seated in the back seat. As she began handling the cash, she told investigators she heard multiple gunshots.

The man then ran from the vehicle and headed west through the park, according to the affidavit. The woman exited the car, saw the suspect running away and called 911.

Investigators later recovered about seven shell casings near the vehicle and found a large amount of cash in the back seat.

A backpack belonging to Isabell contained a phone believed to have been used to arrange the meeting. While checking the phone, an officer saw a Snapchat profile with the name “Draco” before it disappeared from the screen.

Investigators later identified Farris-Clark as a suspect. Police also received information that he may have been in a red sport utility vehicle.

A Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy later located a red Chevrolet Equinox in the parking lot of Long John Silver’s on the south side of Crawfordsville. The driver told the deputy she had just arrived for work, while a female relative of Farris-Clark was seated in the front passenger seat.

While speaking with the passenger, the deputy noticed a man slouched in the back seat with a hat pulled low over his face. The man was later identified as Farris-Clark.

Investigators reported finding wet black sweatpants and shoes with sand and gravel in the vehicle. Police noted a stream runs through Milligan Park and later observed footprints in a sandy area near the water that appeared to show someone had recently crossed the stream. During an interview with police, Farris-Clark admitted he had arranged the drug deal with Isabell but said the plan was to rob him.

According to the affidavit, Farris-Clark told investigators he approached the vehicle, counted out money and handed it to Isabell. When Isabell turned inside the car, he told investigators he became nervous.

Farris-Clark then pulled a handgun and fired several shots at close range before fleeing the scene, according to the affidavit. He told investigators he fled through the park, crossing a stream and dropped the handgun while running before returning to a vehicle driven by White.

Crawfordsville police have not confirmed whether the weapon used in the shooting has been located.

Court documents state Farris-Clark and White had discussed the plan for several days and intended to rob Isabell of marijuana products and sell them later for money.

Investigators say Cottom and Jones were also involved in planning the robbery. White told investigators Jones provided money believed to be counterfeit to use during the drug deal and also supplied the handgun used in the shooting.

White told investigators he had scouted Milligan Park before the meeting and drove to the park the night of the shooting in a separate vehicle. He said he later returned to his residence with Jones after the shooting.

White also told investigators he and Jones were involved in an armed robbery in Linden several months earlier.

Investigators also obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 1200 block of Old Waynetown Road where they believe Farris-Clark went after the shooting.

The residence is the same property where the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded Feb. 26 to reports of automatic gunfire, later seizing a handgun investigators said appeared to have been modified to fire automatically from a 17-year-old.

All four suspects are being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond. Initial hearings for each defendant took place Wednesday in Montgomery Circuit Court. Judge Darren Chadd has set a jury trial for June 9.

The investigation remains ongoing.
