Foxworthy signs with Jaguars to continue softball career

VEEDERSBURG — Fountain Central softball superstar Zoe Foxworthy-Dejournett emerged last season as a must-see player. In her first season with the Mustangs last spring she batted a blistering .500, scored 40 runs, hit eight home-runs and drove in 21. Add in her 38 stolen bases along with a .611 on-base-percentage and a .986 slugging % and there wasn’t anything that was stopping her. Now the Mustang superstar has found her college home at least for the first two years as on Wednesday she signed with Danville Area Community College Jaguars to continue her softball career.

A season ago the Jaguars went 45-15 and have routinely been a great stepping stone for many players who go onto D1 or D2 programs. That’s the goal for Foxworthy who has been dreaming of playing collegiate softball ever since she began playing at a young age.

“I know little Zoe would be so proud because this is something I’ve been wanting for the longest time,” Foxworthy said. “I’m really proud of myself to get to where I am and it wouldn’t have been possible without all the helping me out along the way. My mom was the one who got me started playing at a young age. I’ve had so many travel coaches and of course coach Walke and all my teammates here at Fountain Central. It’s just a very nice feeling to know that I’m going to continue playing the sport I love.”

Last spring Foxworthy helped guide the Mustangs to an 11-13 record and they set seven single season school records. Foxworthy herself set six individual school records. Longtime FC coach Ric Walke noted how it’s a proud day for the program as they get to see their leader sign to play at the next level.

“DACC is a great fit for Zoe and they’re going to help her right away get better,” Walke said. “They’re going to help push her along to the next level after two years there. It’ s a competitive program she’s going to. They play D1 schools in the fall so she’s going to be tested and find out what kind of player she is right away.”

When taking a visit to DACC, the competitive nature of the program is something that stood out to right away to Foxworthy. She knows that she’ll be challenged at the next level but she’s ready to prove herself.

“Playing in college, you have to take your game to another level,” she said. “It’s a program that I see where it can take me to hopefully playing at a D1 or D2 school. I’m ready for the challenge and am looking forward to just making myself better.”

Walke also mentioned how Foxworthy’s all-around skill set is what makes her standout. There’s not one real weakness in her game. She fields, bats for power and average, runs, and throws well. Those five-tools are the basis of a great player and Foxworthy possesses them all.
“Her athleticism is what’s really going to help her transition to the next level,” Walke said. “What’s great about Zoe is that she’s not going to rest on her laurel’s. She’s going to continue to get even better. She’s already been in the weight room this off-season. She’ll be at every single one of our workouts and is a leader and captain for us. Players like her are fun to coach and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.”

Foxworthy will be a force once again for FC in the spring as the 2023 JR Softball Player of the Year looks to end her career on a high note.
