Nathan Fraser, vice president and general manager of the Crawfordsville Nucor Plant, pictured at left with Norm Reimondo, spoke recently to the Crawfordsville Rotary Club. Fraser has been with Nucor for 24 years. The Crawfordsville Plant started in 1987-1989 and employs around 758 employees. The first sheet metal plant is in Crawfordsville. Nucor is the largest steel and steel products producer in the United States. The steelmaking capacity exceeds 27 million tons annually. Nucor is the number one recycler in North America and recycles 20 million tons of ferrous scrap annually to produce new steel that is 100% recyclable. There are 2,300 steel jobs in Indiana. The median pay for all Nucor Teammates nationwide over the last three years (not including CEO) was $95,976. There were zero layoffs at any Nucor Steel Mill in the company’s history. Every Nucor teammate and their dependents are eligible to receive a $3,500-per-year scholarship to college or vocational school. Nearly $110 million has been awarded nationwide since the program’s inception in 1974. There are 27,000 teammates working safely at more than 300 operating facilities in North America.
