Every Thursday in September, the CDPL Seed Library will host a learning opportunity for those interested in gardening and growing flowers.
The informative sessions are sponsored by the Montgomery County Master Gardeners and will highlight assorted topics.
The series kicks off with speaker Andria Grady. She is both a master gardener and the owner of Potager and Petals, a small urban flower farm here in Crawfordsville. Her presentation will be “Growing Cool Flowers.”
Cool flowers are cool-season hardy annuals that prefer growing in colder weather.
“You can extend the blooming period and get stronger flowers earlier in the season if you learn when to plant the seeds,” Grady said. “Great flowers will bloom next year if you adjust the planting time to fit your zone.”
Detailed planting times and practices will be included in the class, as well as some affordable options for protecting your plants from the freezing temperatures in the spring.
Other topics in the series include: Seed Saving with Amanda Ingram (Sept. 14); Dividing Bulbs and Perennials with Purdue Extension agent Tricia Herr (Sept. 21); and Putting Your Garden to Bed with Kathy Brown (Sept. 28).
All workshops are free and open to the public.
Programs will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Donnelley Room at the library, with the exception of the Dividing Bulbs and Perennials hands-on workshop. It will take place outdoors at the Purdue Extension office, 400 Parke Ave., and participants should dress for the weather.
