The Crawfordsville District Public Library’s Summer Reading Program began Tuesday for all ages — children, teens and adults. Challenge yourself to read this summer and earn fun prizes.
Children, ages 0-19, can register for the youth summer reading program, “Sweet Reads.” Registration is ongoing at the library’s Youth Service Desk. This year children will earn fun plastic brag tags for reading. These tags will be placed on a bracelet when they are earned. When children register, they will be given a chart with pictures of sweet treats to check off as they read, earning a brag tag for each box. The children will also have five genres of books to read to earn brag tags. When a child earns five brag tags, they will earn the first prize. Once all reading is completed and 10 brag tags are earned, the elementary children will earn a T-shirt and a book to keep. The preschoolers will earn a book bag and a book to keep. The program ends July 11, and all time for reading must be turned in by 8:45 p.m. that day.
We also have activities, crafts and contests for children happening through the summer. Every day children may find the bubble gum machine in the library and enter a weekly drawing to win a small prize. There will be picture searches up at the library for children to find pictures of sweet treats, and a new drop-in craft every week.
We have story times for multiple ages each week. Story times for babies are 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, 10 a.m. Wednesdays for toddlers and 10 a.m. Thursdays for preschoolers. No registration is required for these. Just drop-in and join us.
We have activities for elementary students at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. Registration is required for these activities so we can have enough supplies for everyone on the list. Call 765-362-2242, ext. 2, to sign up.
We have activities for tweens, ages 11-14, every other Thursday at 4 p.m. Registration is also required for this so we can have enough supplies for all coming. Call 765-362-2242, ext. 2, to sign up.
Teens have their own “Sweet Reads” reading program. They can sign up at the Youth Services desk at the library. They will keep track of time spent reading and fill out tickets. Teens may choose a prize from the treasure chest for tickets earned and enter their tickets for weekly and grand prize drawings.
Adults can complete their “All Together Now” reading challenge online by going to www.cdpl.beanstack.com or downloading the free Beanstack app on any smart device. If you prefer paper, stop by the second floor reference desk to pick up a summer reading challenge brochure. Challenge yourself to read at least an hour every week between May 30 to July 11, plus complete an activity challenge to enter into our weekly and grand prize drawings.
We also have several events for adults happening throughout the summer. Visit our website at www.cdpl.lib.in.us to see the events calendar and register for upcoming programs.
We would like to thank the Friends of the Library and our community sponsors for funding a significant portion of our programs. We can do so much more with their generosity. We hope to see you this summer at the library.
