Gordon Arista Shoaf, 89, of Kingman went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 14, 2023, at Union Hospital with family by his side.

Gordon was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Millcreek Township, Fountain County, Indiana, to the late Frank and Avanelle (Allen) Shoaf. He graduated from Kingman High School in 1953. Gordon married the love of his life, Shirley Marie Huffman, on Aug. 10, 1956. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage and life together.

Gordon served two years in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Story, Virginia where he drove amphibious vehicles. He traveled on an LSD to Greenland, where he stayed from May to September 1958. Gordon was an active member of Kingman Christian Church, where he enjoyed serving along with his wife. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 for 55 years. He worked on various jobs throughout Central Indiana and Illinois. He liked a challenge and always wanted to know how things worked. He always completed a job to best of his ability and taught his children to do the same.

During his life, Gordon enjoyed building stock cars with friends, competing in tractor pulls, all types of construction, and fixing things for family, friends, and neighbors. He loved going to his children’s activities and later his grandchildren’s events. He enjoyed mowing and planting a large garden that he shared with family.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Shirley Shoaf, and their four children, Robin (John) Ratcliff, Susan (Frank) Sniezek, Christopher (Julie) Shoaf and Angela (Chadd) Beard; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Brock) Bennett, Jared Ratcliff, Sarah (Cam) Patria, Samuel Gordon (Allison) Shoaf, Hannah (Issac) Stonebraker, Kristen (Jonathan) DiFiore, Adam Sniezek, Lucas Beard (fiancée Emilee Organ), Kaitlyn Beard and Caroline Beard; five great-grandchildren, Claire Bennett, Eva and Ellie Patria, Ruby Shoaf and Emma DiFiore; two sisters, Marjorie Keeling and Joyce Berard; and several other close family members.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Ransom.

Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S. First St., Kingman, on Monday, Nov. 20 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Pastors John Bowling and Dave Sims officiating. Burial will follow at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
