Health department focus of Lunch with the League event

Posted

Join the League of Women Voters at noon Friday for its first Lunch with the League in 2024.

Diamond Justus, the public health educator for the Montgomery County Health Department, will present a program of how the local health department supports healthy adults and children in the community with a wide array of programs and resources. The event will take place on the third floor of the Fusion 54 building at 101 W. Main St. Those planning to attend may bring a brown bag lunch.

The health department not only provides services such as the diaper pantry and free health screenings but also relays important health information to the public such as information about COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Public awareness about health-related resources and programs and issues of importance affecting the public health is important to the success of efforts to maintain the public health and wellness. Justus is in charge of making sure the public has information on these programs and resources, by creating and distributing material for our community, facilitating  committee and coalition meetings and events and creating and organizing health related programs. She started her journey as an intern with the health department in 2021 while working
on her bachelor’s degree in
psychology. After graduating from college, and working as a case manager for Valley Oaks, Justus started working full-time with the health department as a public health educator. Her role has allowed her to expand and grow programs for the community such as creating the Montgomery County Diaper Pantry, re-launching the Wellness Coalition, collaborating with Drug Free Montgomery County and hosting the Second Annual Montgomery County Baby Shower, among many other programs and events.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization whose interest is informing the public on issues of vital interest.

Unless otherwise indicated, Lunch with the League takes place the first Friday of each month, starting at noon on the third floor of Fusion 54. All Lunch with the League events are open to the public and will allow time for questions and answers at the end of each presentation.
