Herbert A. Franklin, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at home, surrounded by family.
He was born Nov. 23, 1937, at Crawfordsville, to Herbert and Evelyn (Davidson) Franklin. Herb married Stella Black on Aug. 10, 1957, at Crawfordsville, spending more than 65 loving years together until her passing in 2022.
Herb served in the Indiana National Guard for three years in Crawfordsville. He worked at Kiger Bakery in Lafayette and retired from Dobb’s Painting in Lafayette in 2002.
He enjoyed fishing and camping, especially at Charlarose in Hillsboro. Herb and Stella loved bowling with friends and family. They could also be found playing penny slots at the casino in Anderson and across the country during travels. Herb also enjoyed playing Bingo and cards.
Herb is survived by four children, Edward (Sharon) Franklin of Apple Valley, California, Marie Kirkpatrick (Ron Benassi) of Crawfordsville, Daniel Franklin of Newton and James Franklin of Centerpoint; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother William “Bill” Franklin of Crawfordsville; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Stella; and siblings, Carl, Darwin, John and Delores Franklin.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
